Estella Kloetzel Photospacer.gif Estella Kloetzel passed peacefully into God's loving arms on Monday, October 21, 2013.

She was an amazing woman who was loved and cherished by so many people throughout her life. After leaving rural Colorado and graduating from Barnes Business College, Stella's adventurous spirit had her traveling the world during her long career in government service. She worked in Alaska before it became a state, then in Japan, Korea and Spain before returning to the US where she began her family. Estella continued to be a trailblazing woman in a world dominated by men. She took pride as she moved about the country overseeing the accreditation and management of some of the most neglected veterans' hospitals in the nation. The servicemen and women who lived in or obtained treatment at those facilities received far better care thanks to Stella's tireless efforts.

She retired in Oceanside in 1990 and lived there until 2006 when she relocated to Rancho Bernardo to be closer to her family. Estella had one daughter, Becky, with whom she was very close. She raised Becky during most of her youth and later enjoyed living nearby and sharing life's adventures together. They often traveled together on vacations, hosted parties and hardly a day went by without them talking by phone or being together. They often joked that they grew up together and in some ways were more like sisters. The last 10 years of Estella's life were especially brightened by her granddaughter Sofie. They bonded in the first hour of Sofie's life and she and "Granny" spent countless hours playing, doing homework, going to movies, and snuggling on the couch reading stories or watching favorite TV shows. Granny attended every dance recital, special school events and violin concerts where Sofie was performing.

When Stella moved to The Gateway senior apartment complex in 2012, she quickly made friends with so many people. They made her feel so welcomed. She especially looked forward to playing bingo and poker!

She is dearly missed by her family and friends and left an indelible imprint on the lives she touched. We are so grateful for all of our friends who touched her life over the years which brought her so much joy. While her body might have aged her spirit always remained youthful and vibrant.

She is survived by her daughter Becky, granddaughter Sofie, son-in-law Lance, brothers Rudy and Dave and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and other family members. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Helen Woodward Animal Shelter as she was lover and protector of animals.
