April 18, 1925 - September 13, 2017
Helen Joy Turner Spacer Helen Joy Turner passed peacefully at home on November 3, 2018. Joy was born in San Diego on September 13, 1920. After graduating from San Diego High, she worked for 30+ years in various Federal service positions. At Naval Electronics Laboratory, she was editor of “The Calendar”, the in-house employee publication. It was at NEL that she met her future husband Ron with whom she would spend over 50 wonderful years.

In retirement, Joy earned a certificate from the Interior Design Guild and, with Ron, formed an Interior Decorating Business. She was a very talented artist, creating beautiful oil and watercolor paintings. Joy was an active member of St. Peters Episcopal Church and was involved in many activities including Daughters of the King and Cursillo.

Joy was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Gail Thrall and is survived by her devoted and loving husband Ron, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Always impeccably dressed, Joy’s external loveliness was matched by her inward beauty and outgoing personality. She was a friend to everyone she ever met.

Services will be held on Saturday, November 17 at 10am at St Peter’s Episcopal Church in Del Mar with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Joy’s memory.

Helen Joy Turn joined NARFE on 10-1-1981. She was a member of the Encinitas Chapter until it closed several years ago. She was an "Honorary" member of the chapter.
